Retrospect on Last La Liga Season
The 2021/2022 La Liga season had plenty of exciting twists and turns to make it as exciting as usual. The biggest news was Leonel Messi leaving Barcelona for PSG before the season started. He played in La Liga for 16 seasons and left as the overall top scorer for the league and Barcelona as well.
Defending champions Atletico Madrid did not have a good start but managed to rally later in the season to finish a respectable 3rd.
Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid enjoyed his best season so far in La Liga, as he scored 17 goals and 10 assists to help Real Madrid to the league title. Real Madrid led the table for most of the season and never looked in danger of losing their lead at any given time.
Real Sociedad was the surprise package in the early stages of the season, leading the league table until week 14 when they began to slide downwards. They eventually finished 6th and managed to secure a Europa League slot.
After a poor first half of the season, the arrival of Xavi Hernandez rejuvenated Barcelona’s campaign. They went on a good run of form that eventually saw them finish 2nd. They also beat Real Madrid 4-0 in the El Clasico 2nd leg.
